Domain and Variables

Horizontal Grid

The simulation domain consists of two parts: a forced outer frame and a "free" inner domain. Variables at grid points in the inner domain are not constrained by imposed boundary conditions. However it might be expected that locations near boundaries might be more influenced by imposed conditions than locations near the interior. The standard inner domain is given by a 51 (N-S)x(E-W) lat-lon grid with 1/2 degree resolution, with the central point located in the middle of the U.S. (lat. grid #26, lon. grid #51)=(37.5 N, 100 W) (See figure).

Vertical Grid

Lateral boundary conditions interpolated from 6-hourly values as supplied by a global climate model or observed fields are introducted within the forcing (outer) frame.
